Probe into former EAC boss, Mathuki over financial impropriety starts Monday
Investigations into abuse and misappropriation of office by former Secretary General of East African community Peter Mathuki will start Monday before the East African Legislative Assembly's rules committee .
Peter Mathuki is at the center of controversy over misappropriation of USD 6.6 million peace fund allocation , intimidation and redeployment of staff at the secretariat.

During the 25th sitting of the 5th Eala Assembly held in Nairobi, Kennedy Mukulia, the EALA representative from South Sudan raised the red flag over alleged misappropriation of funds meant for peace fund allocation.
Information reaching the Nile Post indicates that a committee is set to hear mismanagement of the affairs of the community under Article 6(d) of governance and accountability.
In a leaked document, Peter Mathuki is accused of conspiring and operating a separate and parallel budget contrary to article 132 of the financial Rules and Regulations.
"The former secretary General Peter Mathuki of the EAC mismanaged the affairs of the community, he misappropriated funds meant for peace fund in DRC and on Monday the committee of rules will embark on investigations," Mukulia said.
One of Uganda's representatives to EALA, Gerald Siranda said, "We as parliament felt that the SG had stampeded parliament and had a reached a process where there were issues pointing at him on embezzlement and mismanagement in terms of violating the peace fund with a rumor of opening a different accounts."
The two EALA legislators are demanding prosecution and recovery of funds with immediate effect .
" If there are issues of corruption and mismanagement we should recover that money from where it went and they should undergo processes of trial with the East African Court of Justice," Siranda says.
Other officials expected to appear before the rules committee of EALA include the human resource manager, and finance manager who are accused of illegal recruitment , intimidation of staff secretariat in collaboration with Mathuki.
"The committee will make appropriate recommendations to council and those found culprit will be prosecuted including those who collaborated with him and all those officials who aided him will be dealt with," South Sudan's Mukulia said.
