Butaleja: 44 year old arrested for refusing to be counted during census

Police in Butaleja district have arrested a 44yr old woman for allegedly refusing to be enumerated in the ongoing national housing and population census.

Lukia Namuhose, a resident of Namaji cell in Nabiganda town council Butaleja district was arrested after turning down requests by an enumerator to be counted.

According to Bukedi South  police spokesperson , Moses Mugwe  when the enumerator reached Namuhose's home on May, 11, she declined , forcing the enumerator to skip the home and continue with other households.

The following day, the enumerator returned to ensure Namuhose is counted but she chased him away saying she could not allow to be counted..

However, on May , 14, the enumerator informed his supervisor of the incident who in turn informed police that arrested Namuhose.

"We shall not condone acts that tantamount to crime in line with the on going census exercise but shall have such perpetrators brought to book" the area police spokesperson said.
