Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda, has urged the Muslim faithful to prioritize the welfare of their parents, especially as they enter advanced age.

This message was delivered during his heartfelt speech at the burial ceremony of Lady Zaituni Kabasita Akiiki, the mother of Haj Siraje Walusimbi, a prominent businessman based in Kampala.

Lady Zaituni was the wife of the late Haj Abdallah Sebagala, who previously served as the head of a security unit overseeing the Old Kampala area.

The burial occurred at their family home in Nabingoola Trading Centre, Mubende District.

During his speech, Mufti Mubaje referenced verses from the Qur'an and the sayings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon Him) that underscored the significance of caring for one's parents.

"A man once asked the Prophet whom he should hold dear in daily interactions. The Prophet responded, 'Your mother' three times and then 'Your father' once," recounted Mubaje.

This teaching highlights the elevated status that mothers hold due to their sacrifices in raising children from conception to adulthood.

Furthermore, Mubaje expressed concern about the widespread misuse of smartphones among young people, particularly in engaging in vices such as insulting leaders and spreading false information.

He called upon authorities to support the youth in participating in productive activities instead of selling their inherited small plots of land and venturing into unprofitable businesses like boda boda riding in Kampala.
