Maj Gen Bakasumba Lauds French Training Assistance to UPDF

The Chief of Joint Staff, Major General Jackson Bakasumba, praised the French government for its training support to the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces, highlighting its crucial role in enhancing counter-terrorism efforts.

Maj Gen Bakasumba expressed his gratitude today while hosting French Defence Attaché, Lt Col Yam Chollet, during a courtesy visit at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs Headquarters in Mbuya.

“We share the credit with you, our partners. Thank you so much for that support. We appreciate so much for the training support. UPDF soldiers reach the mission area when they are well trained, and the performance is very good as expected by the leadership,” stated Maj Gen Bakasumba.

Lt Col Yam Chollet commended the UPDF's contributions to regional peace: "I appreciate your capabilities and highly professional army for providing peace and stability."

He mentioned that the visit aimed to prepare for the upcoming visit of the French Defence Director for security and defence cooperation to Uganda.

Attendees included Col Younes Bagada, Assistant Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security (Defence and International Engagements); Col William Kakuru, Military Assistant to the Chief of Joint Staff; Maj Jeannot Xavier; and Ms. Pigot Juliette, accompanying the French Defence Attaché.
