Major General Bakasumba and Russian Defence Attaché Forge Strategic Alliance for Enhanced Cooperation

Major General Jack Bakasumba, the Chief of Joint Staff, engaged in discussions today with Colonel Nikolay Pavlov, the Military and Air Attaché to the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Uganda. The meeting, held at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs Headquarters in Mbuya, underscored the enduring partnership between Uganda and Russia, particularly in the realms of Security and Defence.

During the meeting, Major General Bakasumba commended the cordial relationship between the two nations and highlighted the significant contributions made by Russia in bolstering Uganda's capabilities in combating terrorism. He emphasized the invaluable role of Russian expertise in the training of Uganda's Military Personnel, a testament to the fruitful collaboration between the two countries.

Expressing Uganda's openness to further avenues of cooperation, Major General Bakasumba proposed the establishment of a legal framework to formalize and expand collaboration across various Defence initiatives. This proactive approach underscores Uganda's commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with Russia and leveraging mutual interests for the benefit of both nations.

In response, Colonel Nikolay Pavlov reaffirmed Russia's steadfast commitment to supporting Uganda in its Defence endeavours. He expressed Russia's willingness to share its wealth of military experience and expertise with Uganda, underscoring the importance of continuous dialogue and collaboration in addressing shared security challenges.

Also present at the meeting was Assistant Attaché Lieutenant Colonel Eugene Shmelev, reflecting the comprehensive nature of discussions and the depth of engagement between the two countries.
