Minister Mao advocates for amendments in land law

The Minister for Justice and constitutional affairs ,Nobert Mao has stressed the need to amend the laws that are outdated in order to improve land governance and administration.

Mao made this remarks while presiding over the eight Global Surveyors Day celebrations and 33rd annual general meeting conference held in Entebbe aimed at reflecting on their performance and project for future prospectus.

The institution of surveyors of Uganda convened in Entebbe in their annual general meeting with the aim of re-organizing and reflecting on their achievements in the previous years

The minister called for more support in reviewing legal framework to amend laws that are outdated to catch up with the new trends especially on land matters.

“Government still has a challenge in improving land governance and administration in Uganda that needs to be harmonized in land tenure system, every land must have boundaries , we must value properties among others to ensure land issues are put to end,” Mao emphasized.

“As the surveyors reflect on their performance, the emphasis is put on unity and draw an example of late Kaija Katuramu as a role model in defending the institution's reputation.

The president of Institution of Surveyors of Uganda, Aloysious Gonza said the number of successes registered by the institution in the last years which include; registration of all surveyors and fighting quacker surveyors have greatly contributed to its Progress.

According to Gonza, over 20,000 cases of land left pending in courts of law in Uganda.

Currently, shs5 trillion is held in land disputes from properties that remain utilized and developed.
