Taxi driver arrested after complaint of reckless driving
Police have confirmed the detention of Hassan Ssemwogere, the driver of a Toyota Hiace, registration number UBL 390M, for reckless driving and operating without a valid driver licence.
In a statement, Michael Kananura, the Traffic Police spokesperson, said Ssemwogere was apprehended following a report from a concerned citizen on Thursday, September 19.
The citizen alerted authorities about Ssemwogere’s dangerous driving behavior, including overtaking multiple vehicles at various locations.
“Our team swiftly collaborated with on-ground officers to impound the vehicle. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the driver was operating without a valid driving licence,” said Kananura.
Ssemwogere has been charged and is expected to appear in court.
The police extended their appreciation to Nyombi for his vigilance and urged the public to continue reporting similar incidents.
“Your vigilance is crucial in creating safer roads and promoting responsible driving habits,” Kananura added.
The Traffic Police also called on vehicle owners to ensure proper vetting of drivers before entrusting them with vehicles.
