Third Deputy Prime Minister Rukia Nakadama announced the strategy, emphasizing the importance of value addition in coffee production.

The Ugandan government has unveiled an ambitious plan to elevate coffee export earnings from the current $1.4 billion to $3 billion, positioning the coffee sector as a cornerstone of the nation’s economic transformation.

Third Deputy Prime Minister Rukia Nakadama announced the strategy, emphasizing the importance of value addition in coffee production.

The focus is on shifting from exporting raw beans to producing premium coffee products that command higher prices on the global market.

“We have the ability to hit the target of 20 million bags by 2030. Let’s add value to the beans; we shall support you,” Nakadama said, highlighting the government’s pledge to assist farmers and processors in meeting international standards.

Uganda, one of the world's leading coffee producers, is known for its high-quality Arabica and Robusta beans. However, much of the coffee is exported as green beans, limiting the country’s potential earnings.

By upgrading processing facilities and equipping farmers with modern tools, the government aims to enhance local production and create jobs while improving financial returns for farmers.

The drive to double export revenues aligns with the broader vision of making Uganda a global leader in the coffee market.

With strategic investments and collaboration, the country is poised to unlock the untapped potential of its coffee sector, brewing a success story that could transform its economy and captivate coffee enthusiasts worldwide.
