National Chamber of Commerce: Driving Growth and Empowering Businesses

As Uganda positions itself as a regional trade hub, the Chamber’s partnerships with international organizations and participation in global trade forums highlight the country’s potential.
The Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UNCCI) is solidifying its role as a catalyst for economic growth and a champion of business empowerment in Uganda.
Founded in 1933, the Chamber has evolved into the leading voice of the private sector, driving policy advocacy, trade facilitation, and capacity-building initiatives.
“Our goal is to create an environment where businesses of all sizes can thrive,” said a UNCCI official.
The Chamber has engaged policymakers to address barriers such as trade restrictions, inadequate infrastructure, and limited financing.
Its advocacy ensures that small and medium enterprises (SMEs)—the backbone of Uganda’s economy—have access to critical resources and support.
Membership growth reflects the Chamber's increasing impact. From small businesses to multinationals, members benefit from services like market research, trade facilitation, and training.
These efforts enable businesses to compete in a globalized market.
“The Chamber has been instrumental in expanding our market reach and opening doors for cross-border trade,” noted a local entrepreneur.
As Uganda positions itself as a regional trade hub, the Chamber’s partnerships with international organizations and participation in global trade forums highlight the country’s potential.
UNCCI has also prioritized empowering women entrepreneurs and SMEs through mentorship, training, and financial literacy programs.
Despite challenges such as funding limitations and bureaucratic delays, the Chamber’s leadership is committed to innovation and strategic partnerships. Plans to embrace digital transformation and strengthen public-private collaborations aim to further its impact.
“The UNCCI is not just a platform; it’s a lifeline for businesses striving to succeed,” said another member.
By fostering trade and supporting entrepreneurs, the Chamber remains pivotal to Uganda’s economic future, enabling businesses to thrive on both regional and global stages.
