FDC will not miss Akol – Robert Centenary

Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Vice Chairperson for the Western region, Robert Centenary, has dismissed allegations made by Kilak North MP Anthony Akol, who accused the party’s top leadership of failing to address his voters’ concerns, leading to his decision to switch allegiance to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Akol claimed that despite raising key issues in Parliament, including compensation for livestock losses and the Apaa land conflict, his efforts were blocked by opposition members within the party.

“We have been pushing these issues in the opposition, but they have been blocked by people inside. I want to see now who has been blocking these compensation claims, including for livestock and Apaa land conflicts. We have raised these issues on the floor of Parliament and even to the President himself without success. The FDC top organ has been sitting in caucus, but I don’t know what they deliberate. This time, I want to talk from within the NRM,” Akol said.
In response, Centenary dismissed Akol’s remarks, stating that he had never been an active member of FDC and was using the party for personal gain.
“People use party flags for their selfish interests. Since he went to Parliament on our party ticket, he has never set foot at our headquarters for the last seven years. We already had information from our sources that he has been working with the NRM, and we have already identified his replacement for the 2026 parliamentary elections,” Centenary said.
Over the weekend, Speaker of Parliament Anita Among confirmed Akol’s impending defection alongside Martin Mapenduzi.
On her X platform, Among welcomed Mapenduzi and hinted at Akol’s move to the ruling party.
“My younger brother and Member of Parliament for the Badege-Layibi Division, Mapenduzi Ojara, joins the esteemed NRM. His brilliance, level-headedness, and experience will be tremendous assets to our revolutionary party! I also want to thank Honourable Akol Anthony, who is just a step away from joining us on this revolutionary journey. Together, we can achieve great things,” Among wrote.
