Bobi Wine: Gen Muhoozi could be worse than his father if he becomes president
National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, has issued a stark warning that Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Chief of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and son of President Museveni, could be an even more dangerous leader than his father if he ascends to the presidency.
Kyagulanyi argued that all signs indicate Muhoozi would be more oppressive than his father if he were to take power.
"For Gen Museveni's son, this is not just a threat—he has already shown that he can be far more brutal than his father. Kakwenza's scars, along with others, are a lasting reminder of what he is capable of," Kyagulanyi cautioned.
Gen Muhoozi recently stirred controversy with a tweet, warning that anyone doubting his future presidency would face consequences.
He further fueled debate with a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), where he claimed that the corruption trial of Igara East MP Michael Mawanda was politically motivated to undermine his succession plans for 2026.
Mawanda was arrested on June 19 after a police investigation linked him to a Shs7 billion corruption case involving compensation for cooperative war losses.
In his post, Gen. Kainerugaba declared Mawanda a "political prisoner," targeted for supporting his presidential ambitions.
"My friend, Michael Mawanda, is in prison (and they think we shall stay quiet forever) while people who have stolen from this country for decades are still ministers? Mzee should hear our cry for change," Muhoozi said.
Michael Mawanda is a political prisoner. He was taken to prison by some politically dilapidated people in NRM for the 'great crime' of supporting Muhoozi Kainerugaba in Bushenyi. That his only crime is supporting me. Free Mawanda."
Kyagulanyi compared Kainerugaba’s rhetoric to the biblical story of King Rehoboam from 1 Kings Chapter 12, who threatened to increase the burdens on his people, leading to his downfall.
"This would be funny if it wasn't real," Kyagulanyi remarked. "These words by Gen. Museveni's son remind me of a foolish, evil king found in the Bible. When the people, who were previously oppressed by his father, came to him to request that he lighten their burdens, his response was: 'My father laid heavy burdens on you, but I’m going to make them even heavier! My father beat you with whips, but I will beat you with scorpions!'"
Kyagulanyi emphasized that Kainerugaba has already shown his capacity for brutality, citing the torture of writer Kakwenza Rukirabashaija as a stark example.
He called on Ugandans to resist the continued oppression by Gen. Museveni and his family, urging collective action to end their rule.
"It is entirely up to us, the people, to put an end to this humiliation and oppression against the people of Uganda by Gen. Museveni and his family," Kyagulanyi declared.
