Climate change experts, researchers, leaders from the Tooro and Rwenzori subregions, schools, and residents of Fort Portal City gathered on Friday at Uganda Pentecostal University's Fort Portal branch for a memorial lecture honouring the institution's former Vice Chancellor, Professor John Ntambirweki.
The event, themed around climate change management, served as a platform to discuss actionable measures for integrating climate solutions, responses, and sustainable practices.
The discussions focused on practical strategies to address climate change, with a particular emphasis on education and community involvement.
Among the attendees was Margaret Mwebesa, Commissioner for Climate Change at the Ministry of Water and Environment, alongside environmental experts from Kenya.
They unanimously agreed that incorporating climate change education into Uganda's curriculum would play a pivotal role in managing the adverse effects of climate change.
Alex Ruhunda, Member of Parliament for Fort Portal Central Division, stressed that these lessons would address the harmful practices of individuals who continue to degrade wetlands and other critical ecosystems.
The memorial lecture also paid tribute to Professor John Ntambirweki, a renowned lawyer and former Vice Chancellor of Uganda Pentecostal University, who passed away on April 12, 2023.
His legacy continues to inspire efforts toward sustainable development and climate resilience.
