Safer Internet Day, celebrated at the Communication’s house in Kampala brought together policymakers, government officials, regulators, and students from over 20 schools for a day dedicated to promoting online safety and digital responsibility.
In his speech, the state minister for youth and children affairs Balaam Barugaha encouraged students to harness the vast opportunities the internet offers, particularly for research and educational purposes emphasizing the potential of the internet to expand knowledge and empower young minds to excel academically and professionally.
However, Minister Barugahara also cautioned against the darker side of the internet arguing that students to refrain from engaging in cyberbullying, highlighting how harmful online harassment can be raising concerns about the use of the internet as a political tool for committing crimes, stressing that such actions could have serious consequences for individuals and society.
