Katikkiro Mayiga urges Catholics to lead in Church and national affairs

The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has called on Catholics to actively participate in leadership at all levels, from Catholic administration to national governance, to foster the development of the Catholic Church.
Speaking during a meeting with Catholic leaders at Lweza Monastery, Mayiga emphasised that leadership requires individuals who are determined and committed, rather than those who only engage in superficial involvement.

He urged Catholics to aim for key leadership positions, including parliamentary roles, to influence policies that support the growth of the Church and its institutions.
“This leadership needs people who are determined and decisive. Without decisive leaders, the Church will not develop at all,” Mayiga stressed.
He further underscored the importance of innovation in leadership, arguing that stagnation in leadership has contributed to slow human development.
“We don’t want a poor Church,” Mayiga added, calling for proactive strategies to enhance the economic and social progress of Catholic institutions.
The meeting, attended by Parish Priest William Nsimbe of Lweza parish and other religious leaders, also highlighted the strong relationship between the Catholic Church and the Buganda Kingdom.
Parish priest Nsimbe expressed gratitude for the kingdom’s support and outlined plans for the monastery’s sustainability, including fundraising initiatives for development projects.
Deo Kizza, an official responsible for human rights and justice, commended the archbishop for championing initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of the Catholic community.
The discussion concluded with a shared commitment between the Catholic Church and Buganda Kingdom to strengthen collaboration in promoting social and economic development.
