In Uganda, it is common for young people to aspire to construct their own homes when they amasse significant amounts of money.
In many communities, owning a home is often seen as a mark of success, which drives many especially the youth to pursue this ambitious goal.
However, Mayiga cautioned that building a residential house can be financially overwhelming and warned that such rushed decisions could lead to financial difficulties in the future.
He urged the youth to prioritise establishing solid economic foundations through investments before committing to major expenses such as home construction.
"Construction of residential houses takes up a lot of money, which would be used to grow... business, especially in the early stages of one's life. These days I caution young people against rushing into building personal residential houses,"Mayiga stated.
He emphasised that the significant funds spent on a house could instead be utilized to expand an existing business or even to launch a new venture.
