VP Alupo Tightens Oversight on Service Delivery in Katakwi

The Vice President Rtd. Maj. Jessica Rose Alupo Epel has voiced serious concerns regarding the quality of service delivery in Katakwi District.
During a recent capacity-building session for boda boda riders organised by the Microfinance Support Centre, she questioned whether government funding is being utilised effectively to benefit the local residents.
Alupo, who is also the Woman MP for Katakwi District, expressed her frustration at the disparity between the district’s strong support for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and the poor state of public services.
TheNRM is highly supported in Katakwi, but when it comes to service delivery, the situation is the opposite. Yet, government funds are sent regularly,” she remarked.
In response to these challenges, the Vice President announced her intention to adopt a more hands-on approach, pledging to personally audit the district’s financial accounts over the past three years to identify the underlying issues.
She criticised the leadership in Katakwi, alleging widespread impunity and mismanagement.
“Katakwi is full of impunity, and this needs to stop. I will ensure that accountability becomes the standard. We cannot continue like this while our people suffer,” Alupo asserted.
The boda boda riders expressed their appreciation for the Vice President's commitment to enhancing accountability and service delivery in the district.
The session also highlighted the importance of establishing and managing Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCOs), which are vital for fostering financial empowerment at the grassroots level.
Alupo's remarks are likely to resonate with district officials and stakeholders, urging them to prioritise transparency and effective service delivery initiatives.
Efforts to contact the Katakwi District leadership for a response to these concerns were unsuccessful at the time of publication.
