The Territorial Police in Kayunga District have arrested Annette Namakula, headteacher of Lion of Judah Elementary School, on allegations of involvement in malpractice during the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE).

The incident took place on November 6, 2024, at around 10:20 a.m., at the school located in Kyampisi village, Kayunga Sub-County.

Reports indicate that around 10:00 a.m., the District Internal Security Officer (DISO) of Kayunga received information about suspected exam malpractice at the school.

Acting swiftly, the DISO went to the premises and allegedly found three teachers preparing answers for the 2024 UNEB PLE Mathematics exam.

According to Hellen Butoto, spokesperson for the Ssezibwa region, the teachers had prepared answer sheets for both Section A and Section B of the Mathematics exam. The DISO confiscated these answer sheets and took them to the headteacher’s office to compare them with the UNEB examination papers, aiming to confirm if the answers matched the actual exam questions.

Butoto further stated that the DISO requested the three teachers to accompany him to the headteacher’s office, but they fled before arriving. The headteacher, Namakula, identified the three teachers as Rodgers Kyondo, Samuel Ngobi, and Julius Orune—all staff members at Lion of Judah Elementary School.

Upon comparison, the retrieved answer sheets reportedly matched the UNEB Mathematics exam questions exactly, following the correct order.

Butoto confirmed that Namakula has been arrested to aid in the ongoing investigation. Authorities are currently searching for the three teachers involved, and UNEB staff assigned to Lion of Judah Elementary School have been summoned to provide statements as part of the inquiry.
