Hundreds of subjects gathered at Bukungu Primary School in Buyende District to celebrate the 10th coronation anniversary of Kyabazinga William Gabula Nadiope IV.
The vibrant event, filled with pomp and grandeur, reflected a decade of leadership, unity, and cultural pride under the Kyabazinga's reign.
The festivities included various activities, with a highlight being the boat race on Lake Kyoga, where the winners were awarded a bull and cash prizes amounting to shs2.5 million.
At 2 PM, the Kyabazinga, accompanied by his wife Jovia Mutesi, arrived at the Bukungu Primary School playground, where they were welcomed with ululations from jubilant subjects eager to celebrate the milestone with their leader.
Upon his arrival, the Kyabazinga performed a royal drumming ritual, symbolising his role in preserving Busoga's rich cultural heritage.
The first Deputy Prime Minister, Rebecca Kadaga, took the opportunity to call on the people of Busoga to unite in urging President Museveni to remove the UPDF Fisheries Protection Unit from the lakes, a long-standing issue in the region.
"I know the president is coming to Buyende in December this year. Don’t be afraid to tell him about your suffering under the UPDF Fisheries Protection Unit," Kadaga said.
She promised to raise the issue directly with the president during his visit, urging the people of Busoga to stand with her.
Kadaga further emphasised the need to stop the torture of fishermen by soldiers, calling for Uganda Revenue Authority to crack down on the distribution of illegal fishing gear in the market.
"The fishing communities in Busoga have suffered the most because we are surrounded by many water bodies, including Lake Victoria, Lake Kyoga, the River Nile, and River Mpologoma," she added.
In his address, Kyabazinga William Gabula Nadiope IV reflected on his decade-long leadership of Busoga, highlighting the significant achievements made under his reign.
He expressed his gratitude to his subjects for their continued support and reaffirmed his commitment to the kingdom’s development, culture, and unity.
"Over the past 10 years, we have made tremendous progress, particularly in infrastructure like roads and water vessels, and we look forward to achieving even more in the years to come," he said.
The Kyabazinga also called on the youth to work hard to transform their lives and contribute to the development of Busoga.
The event marked a significant milestone in the reign of Kyabazinga William Gabula Nadiope IV, celebrating his commitment to upholding Busoga's traditions while driving growth and progress within the kingdom.
Kyabazinga William Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope IV ascended to the throne on 13 September 2013 in a grand ceremony at the kingdom's headquarters in Bugembe.
Before his coronation, the kingdom had been without a king for five years following the death of the former Kyabazinga, Henry Wako Muloki, in 2009.
