Zaake, two other NUP MPs remanded to Luzira ahead of march to parliament

Mityana Municipality MP, Francis Zaake was together with two other legislators from the opposition National Unity Platform remanded to prison over alleged involvement in unlawful assembly.

The two other MPs remanded are Katikamu South MP Hassan Kirumira and Charles Tebandeke for   Bbale county  arrested together with Shamim Nabakoza a cleaner from Mutungo Nakawa Division, Ibra Ssemanda Wasswa, a councilor  ,Brian Mungu, a  resident of Kansanga Zone Makindye Division, Emmanuel Mukisa , a resident of Western Zone Kitimbwa Zone in Kayunga District, Ben Mukasa Ntale a businessman from Kiganda zone in Kawempe and James Mubiru the Lubaga North Councilor at NUP headquarters in Makerere Kavule.

The charges

The group was arraigned before Kampala LDC Grade One Magistrate Martins Kirya and charges of taking part in an unlawful assembly contrary to section 61(1) and 62 of the Penal Code Act read against them.

Zaake was also charged accused of driving a motor vehicle carelessly contrary to section 119 of the Traffic and Road Safety Act as well as driving without a valid driving permit contrary to section 35(1) and 176(1) of the Traffic and Road Safety Act .

The state also preferred charges of disobedience of lawful orders contrary to section 104 of the Penal Code when he allegedly refused to stop when signaled to do so by a police officer in uniform.

All the charges stemmed from his presence at NUP headquarters on Monday morning.

The group’s attempts at applying for bail proved futile as the trial magistrate, Martins Kirya adjourned the matter to Thursday, July, 25 and remanded them until then.

The development came a few hours to the planned march to parliament by anti corruption activists.
