The Speaker of Parliament, Anitah Among, has vowed to defend and support legislators amidst the ongoing summons and arrests of MPs accused of corruption.

Amidst the storm, Among pledged to ensure the rights of legislators are protected.

Among made the commitment during her visit to Lwengo district, where she launched the Ssentayi Foundation in Bukoto West on Saturday.

The Speaker's commitment comes as four legislators who include Busiki County Member of Parliament Paul Akamba, Cissy Namujju the Lwengo Woman MP, Igara East MP Michael Mawanda and Elgon County Legislator Ignatius Mudimi on grounds of corruption leading to summons and arrests.

She  reassured the people of Lwengo that leaders like Cissy Namujju who are currently on remand, are exceptional and deserve to be considered for re-election.

“When the child misbehaves, you punish her and later ask her to go back and serve the people. If Namujju had used government funds to help the people of Lwengo, her actions could be seen as morally justified," Among said.

She assured the people of Lwengo that their Member of Parliament, Cissy Namujju, will soon be released.

"We will ensure that Namujju will be released soon. I have seen her, and she is in good condition. She was punished by her 'father' (President) after wronging him, but we will work towards her release."

A total of 50 legislators gathered in Lwengo to express solidarity with Namujju, emphasizing their commitment to justice and due process.

Among urged the residents to support development initiatives, saying, "Development is a collective responsibility. Let us work together to build our community."

The Speaker emphasized the importance of community support for development projects, stating, "When we work together, we achieve more. Let us embrace this foundation and support its initiatives."
