U.S. Embassy in Tanzania temporarily shuts down over internet disruption
The United States Embassy in Tanzania has temporarily ceased operations except emergencies, citing ongoing internet connectivity disruptions in the country.
In a statement communicated via its official X (formerly Twitter) page, the embassy also announced cancellation of all consular appointments for May 14 and May 15, adding that a reschedule will be for a later date.
"The consular section will be open as scheduled for visa pick up and for emergency American citizen cases," the embassy said.
A major undersea cable disconnection has caused by internet disruptions in the region with all of Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, and other countries in Eastern and Southern Africa affected.
The slowdown in internet speed prompted telecommunication companies to issue warnings to customers about the disruption. Stay tuned for updates on the situation.
Residents in the region have been grappling with slow network connectivity for the past days, making online work challenging.
