Ofwono Opondo mourns passing of mother Alice Opondo

The Executive Director of Uganda Media Centre, Mr Ofwono Opondo, is celebrating the life and times of his mother Alice Owenjuye Opondo, who has passed away at the age of 85.

She peacefully departed at 2:30am at Mukono General Hospital, Opondo said.

"Family, relatives, friends and comrades, I announce the peaceful passing of my mother, Alice Owenjuye Opondo, at 2:30am at Mukono General Hospital," Opondo shared through his X (formerly Twitter).

"Rest in Peace (RIP) my matriarch, Alice Owenjuye Opondo. To all family, relatives, friends & comrades," expressed Opondo.

Opondo, who also serves as the government spokesperson, did not disclose the cause of his mother's demise.

Numerous Ugandans took to social media to express their condolences to Ofwono Opondo.

Julius Mucunguzi, the head of public relations and spokesperson of the Electoral Commission, wrote: "I am very sorry to hear about this sad loss, my brother OO. May God strengthen you and the family and may Maama rest in eternal peace."

Balaam Barugahara, the state minister for Youth and Children Affairs, commented on Ofwono Opondo's post: "May her soul rest in peace."

Born on January 1, 1939, Maama Alice Opondo bid farewell on May 6, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion.

She was not only a mother and grandmother but also a sister and friend to many.

To honor her life, a requiem service will be held at St Luke Ntinda on Wednesday, May 8, starting at 12pm. Following this, a vigil will take place at 6pm on the same day.

The final journey of Maama Alice Owen will commence on May 11, 2024, with a burial ceremony at the Ofwono Opondo Home in Mulanda, Tororo, starting at 11:00 AM.
