Christians from Nsoloolo sub parish in Kagologolo Town Council, Bukomansimbi District, confronted officers at Bukomansimbi Police Station, demanding justice over an ongoing land dispute affecting their church.

According to Kalema Charles, a catechist at Nsoloolo, tensions have been simmering since 2015, when disputes over the church's land first arose.

The church, built in 1977, sits on a five-acre plot, allegedly claimed by descendants of Daniel Kiwooma, led by Daniel Kityo and others known as Sserunkuma who initially granted the land.

The situation escalated when following Kiwooma's passing, subsequent generations reportedly encroaching on the church's land.

Ssakristu Kitenda recounted a series of ownership changes within the Kiwooma family, leading to the current dispute.

Frustrated by the lack of resolution and alleged destruction of church property by the Kiwooma descendants, villagers united in protest, seeking intervention from the Ministry of Lands.

However, their plea turned chaotic as police resorted to firing live bullet rounds to disperse the crowd.

Among those detained was Bukomansimbi North MP Christine Ndiwalana, highlighting the gravity of the situation.

Despite the turmoil, Assistant RDC Joseph Luwaga pledged solidarity with the villagers, vowing to protect the church from any encroachment.

As tensions persist, the community remains steadfast in their quest for justice, appealing for swift intervention to safeguard their place of worship.
