Embrace NRM wealth creation gospel - Museveni
President Museveni

President Museveni delivered a stern message regarding the issue of unemployment in the country, warning against poor attitude.

Before the President addressed the crowd at the International Labour Day celebration in Mukabura, Fort Portal City, in Kabarole District on Wednesday, Musa Okello, chairman of the National Organisation of Trade Unions (NOTU), expressed concerns about the exploitation of workers and the exclusion of professional workers from government empowerment programs.

Okello highlighted the backlog of cases in the industrial court and called for the appointment of additional judges.

In response, Esther Anyakun, the State minister for labour and industrial relations, said there were plans for the construction of an industrial court office by NSSF, pending the acquisition of land.

The issue of low tea prices faced by growers was also raised, with Silver Mugisha, chairman of the Federation of Uganda Employers, cautioning against hasty implementation of provisions for a living wage, citing potential disruptions to businesses.

President Museveni addressed the concern over employment opportunities, attributing it to a poor attitude rather than a lack of wealth creation.

He criticised the public for not following NRM guidelines on wealth creation, suggesting that adherence to these guidelines would mitigate the need for Ugandan women to seek employment abroad.

Additionally, Museveni tasked the Vice President with investigating the eviction of vendors from markets and disagreed with the notion that casual employment signifies a lack of job security, stating his opposition to promoting tea cultivation among small landholders due to its low value.
