Kaberemaido: Two officials arrested over corruption, negligence of duty
KABEREMAIDO | Two officials from Kaberemaido District have been arrested by the State House Anti-Corruption team led by Economic Monitoring minister Beatrice Akello.
Minister Akello, who is currently on a tour in Teso, began her visit in Kaberemaido today (Tuesday) where she engaged with various stakeholders to discuss the purpose of her monitoring efforts.
During the interrogation, the team cited issues in infrastructure programmes that David Eyagu, the substantive commercial officer, and Richard Eliebu, the acting district education officer, could not convincingly explain.
Eyagu was accused of failing to select enterprises for the Emyooga programme, while Eliebu faces charges of extortion of Shs15,000 from every parents for e-Registration.
Minister Akello handed over the officials for further investigation.
In her statement, Minister Akello highlighted the significant investments made in various projects aimed at benefiting communities but expressed concern over the lack of visible results.
"Billions of shillings have been injected into various projects to benefit communities, but no results are seen," Akello said.
As part of her tour, the minister visited an idle multibillion-dollar milk processing plant and feed mill in Kaberemaido Technical Institute, where she noted that the installation by Roki company resulted in immediate cable failures.
Additionally, she observed a submerged Kalaki Kaberemaido road, indicating further challenges faced by the region.
