The FDC was bitterly split in 2023 with a group loyal to Dr Kizza Besigye decamping to his Katonga Road office and forming a faction, leaving Amuriat and his group in Najjanakumbi

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has extended an olive branch to its former members, urging them to rejoin the party as it ushers in what it describes as a period of stability and unity.

Speaking at a media briefing, FDC President Patrick Amuriat revealed that several ex-members had expressed interest in returning to the fold and contributing to the party's mobilisation efforts ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

"We have been approached by a number of our former members expressing a desire to return to the party and actively participate in its activities, including mobilization towards the forthcoming elections," Amuriat stated.

He emphasized that Article 12 of the FDC Constitution provides a pathway for returning members to reintegrate, provided they meet the necessary conditions.

To ease the process, the party plans to establish reception desks in every district to coordinate and welcome those seeking to return.

"I wish to inform the public that the party has attained stability, thanks to the commitment of its leadership and members. Any previous challenges we faced have been decisively resolved," Amuriat noted.

Amuriat also called on young people to join the FDC and seize opportunities for leadership within the party.

"The party offers equal opportunities to everyone. I encourage citizens, especially the youth, to consider the FDC as their first choice," he said.

This call comes amid lingering tensions between the FDC and the Katonga faction, led by former party president Dr Kizza Besigye.

Despite past internal disputes, Amuriat reassured the public of the party’s dedication to rebuilding and strengthening its internal structures.

As the nation edges closer to next year’s elections, the FDC is intensifying efforts to solidify its base and prepare for the political contest ahead.
