Pupil Gives Birth Hours To PLE

A primary seven candidate at Butenga Church of Uganda Primary School in Bukomansimbi district has given birth to a baby girl just one day before her final examinations.
The 14-year-old girl delivered her child on Monday evening at around 7pm.

The pupil reported experiencing labour pains shortly after attending a briefing for PLE.
Sister Gorreth Nabawanuka, a midwife at Butenga Health Centre IV, confirmed that the girl had a normal delivery and is currently in good health.
"Right now, she and her baby are doing well, and we are confident that she will be able to sit for her PLE tomorrow. If she has been studying, she will pass," Sister Nabawanuka said.
Despite her early motherhood, the pupil expressed determination to continue her studies, aiming to become a nurse in the future.
Mr Peter Nkambwe, headteacher of Butenga C/U Primary School, revealed that the school became aware of the girl's pregnancy a week prior to the delivery.
After discussions with the girl's parents, they learned that the father of the child is a family member who has been living in the same household.
"We considered taking action at the school, but upon discovering the circumstances, we decided to allow the family to address the issue. We are prepared to welcome our candidate tomorrow for her final examinations," Nkambwe stated.
He noted that while the church had reservations about her sitting for the exams, the school was advocating for the girl's education to continue without interruption.
In response to the situation, security operatives in Bukomansimbi, led by Deputy RDC Fred Kalema Pax, have launched an investigation to locate the alleged perpetrator, who is reportedly the father of the child.
“We have opened a general file for the case and are investigating, but we want the girl to focus on her exams first. It is essential to hold accountable anyone involved in defilement, especially since the girl is under 18,” RDC Kalema said.
He also urged the youth to avoid drug use, which can lead to harmful decisions, and advised men to seek mature partners.
RDC Kalema confirmed that measures have been put in place to ensure the pupil can take her exams without further complications.
