Suspect flees as security force recover illegal gun in Moroto

Joint security forces in Karamoja have launched a manhunt for a suspect after an illegal firearm was recovered in Naitangole Village, located in Nadunget Sub County, Moroto district.
The operation was part of an ongoing effort to clamp down on illegal arms in the region.

The firearm, registered with the serial numbers 48016460 and 10460 (BC), was found during a cordon and search operation carried out by the security teams.
Despite the suspect's escape, security officials were able to seize the weapon, which was found along with two rounds of ammunition.
“The suspect, whose name we are not disclosing at this point, abandoned the gun and fled the scene during the operation,” said the Karamoja Police Spokesperson, Mike Longole.
“We are actively pursuing this individual, and we are confident that he will be apprehended soon.”
Local community members expressed their appreciation for the police's efforts in the region, commending the swift response and successful recovery of the illegal firearm.
“We are grateful to the security forces for their hard work in making our village safer,” said Bosco Kodet, a resident of Nadunget.
“We hope that these operations continue to reduce the number of illegal weapons in the area.”
Authorities remain on high alert as the manhunt continues.
