Amudat Businessman Survives Shooting Ambush

A businessman in Amudat District narrowly escaped an assassination attempt on the Karita-Chepkararat road.
Denis Cheptegei, who was riding his motorcycle, was ambushed by unidentified assailants who opened fire on him.
“They sprayed bullets at me, but I sped off and managed to escape unharmed,” said a visibly shaken Cheptegei.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are urging residents to provide information that could help identify the attackers.
Karamoja Police Spokesperson Mike Longole appealed to the public, saying, “We call on the public to come forward and assist with the investigation.”
The attack comes as concerns grow over rising cases of gun violence in the Karamoja region. Just a week ago, a man was shot dead in Abim District by suspected Karamojong warriors.
In another incident, a child herder was abducted and fatally shot in Nakapiripirit District.
The surge in shootings has alarmed residents, with many calling for increased security measures along major roads and in remote areas.
Sarah Chebet, a resident of Karita, expressed her fears, saying, “We request police and the UPDF to increase patrols along the lonely roads.”
Police have assured the public of their commitment to addressing the violence and emphasized the importance of community cooperation in the fight against crime.
“These acts of violence are unacceptable. We are working tirelessly to bring the perpetrators to justice,” Longole added.
