UK Prime Minister and Israeli President affirm strong ties amidst ongoing conflict
In a recent meeting in Paris, the UK Prime Minister and Israeli President Isaac Herzog reaffirmed their commitment to the historic friendship between their nations, amidst the backdrop of escalating violence in the region.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister expressed deep condolences for the deaths of five hostages kidnapped on October 7th, whose bodies were recently recovered from Gaza.
"I want to express my heartfelt condolences for the tragic loss of the five hostages," the Prime Minister said. "Our thoughts are with their families during this incredibly difficult time."
The Prime Minister also reiterated his support for Israel's right to self-defense. "There is no moral equivalence between Israel, a democratic state, and Hamas, a terrorist organization," he stated firmly.
He emphasized the need for immediate steps towards a ceasefire to facilitate the release of hostages and the delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need. "We must see immediate steps towards a ceasefire to ensure that hostages are released and more humanitarian aid reaches those who are desperately in need," he urged.
The meeting concluded with both leaders pledging to continue their close partnership, particularly in the realms of trade and investment. "Our collaboration in key areas such as trade and investment remains as crucial as ever," President Herzog affirmed.
