Flagged off by Assistant Governor Fredrick Kamya, the charity walk led members to Vision washing bay in Kitintale.
At the venue, a number of services were offered, including donation of mama kits to expectant mothers, HIV testing and counseling, cervical cancer screening, health talks as well as giving out Vitamin A supplements and deworming for the residents of Luzira, Bugolobi and surrounding areas.
Speaking during the health talk, Dr. Annet Kyomuhendo from Luzira health centre IV asked women to always prepare for pregnancies but also for delivery.
“While going for delivery, go with a mama kit which has all items needed to ensure safe delivery. For example, gloves which prevent the spread of infections from the medic to the unborn baby. Gloves are therefore crucial while going to the labour ward. In all this, men need to support their wives while preparing for this journey to the labour ward,” Dr. Kyomuhendo told residents.
Speaking during the function, Patrick Ford Rukyera, the president of the Rotary Club of Kampala Springs said the activities were meant to give back to the residents.
“We decided to put a building block onto the health of mothers and children in this area. We are not politicians that we are canvasing votes but rather we do this for humanity. Only God will reward us. We mobilise resources and share whatever little we can get,” Rukyera said.
He noted the previously, the Rotary Club of Kampala Springs helped construct and equip a maternity theatre at Luzira health centre IV.
“For us we believe that you don’t need to be so rich but if God blesses you to be at some level, better than another, you have to share with others. Those of us here are not so rich but rather got something off the little we have to share with you,” Rukyera said.
Assistant Governor Fredrick Kamya hailed the Rotary Club of Kampala Springs for coming to the help of humanity.
He however urged locals to regularly exercise to boost their health.
“If you die, you can’t have anything. Please, stay healthy. You can only stay healthy by testing and screening for different health problems. Whereas ARVs are available, we should check our behaviour, stay faithful and use condoms. Exercise regularly. Running for 30 minutes around your area to ensure fitness. Do it every day,” Kamya said.
“You should know prevention is better than cure. By doing regular exercise, you are preventing diseases.”
