The Prime Minister, Robinah Nabbanja, has revealed that the operationalization of Entebbe, Moroto, Nakasongola, Kabale, and Wakiso cities will take place on July 1, 2025, ahead of the 2026 general elections.

"We are committed to ensuring that these cities become operational by July 1, 2025," Prime Minister Nabbanja said during the Prime Minister's Question Time in the Thursday plenary sitting. "This will not only bring services closer to the people but also increase representation in Parliament."
The Prime Minister was responding to a question raised by Michael Kakembo, MP for Entebbe Municipality, who sought clarification on the timeline for the operationalization of the new cities.
Kakembo expressed concern that the delay in operationalization was hindering service delivery in the affected areas.
"I am glad the Prime Minister has provided a clear timeline for the operationalization of these cities," Kakembo said. "This will enable us to plan accordingly and ensure that our constituents receive the services they deserve."
The operationalization of the new cities is expected to have significant implications for the country's governance structure and service delivery. As Prime Minister Nabbanja noted, "This is a critical step towards decentralization and bringing government services closer to the people."
