During the meeting, councilors debated ongoing disputes involving Kalyango and Gerald Kiggundu, accusing both of using social media to undermine their colleagues.
The council demanded an apology from Kalyango, but he refused, calling the proceedings a "sham" and threatening legal action against those accusing him, leading to his formal expulsion.
Councilor Sowedi Mayanja expressed outrage over the personal insults directed at him by Kalyango, highlighting the strain caused by the conflicts.
Speaker Allen Lwanga condemned Kalyango's behavior, stating that the council would not tolerate any abuse or misuse of social media by its members.
Kalungu District Vice Chairperson Irene Mwebe supported the council’s decision, emphasizing that Kalyango’s actions undermined the council's credibility and trust.
In response, Kalyango and his ally, Gerald Kigundu, criticized their expulsion as politically motivated and an attempt to silence dissent.
They accused their colleagues of using political power to suppress opposing views.
Meanwhile, Dr. Paddy Kayondo, the Resident District Commissioner, urged leaders to maintain honor and avoid actions that could exacerbate tensions.
